Like many schools today Oak Lawn High School has two gyms. What’s a little interesting is that one looks like an older-original gym and the other a more modern addition. Both are actually part of the original school building that opened in 1952.
The larger main gym, seen above, has newer bleachers, scoreboard and title plaques around the walls. It’s kind of hard to believe the gym is just a few years older than a classic like Max Morris Gym at Frankfort Community High School.
The auxiliary gym
Despite new bleachers with stadium style seats and new-LED lighting, the look of the auxiliary gym with its balcony seating area and stage, give it the small-old gym look and feel. As many gyms as I’ve seen I was certain the two were from different decades. But when I mentioned to athletic director Jeremey Cryan, that they should have a throwback game in the old gym. He let me know both gyms were part of the original building.
New Field House
A new field house is in the works at Oak Lawn, which means sometimes in the next year or so I may be re-visting the re-visit.
